Headset advice needed

So the story was that I've spent really much time trying to find the good gaming headset for my new PC, and I chose Roccat xtd 5.1digital, because they have real surround 5.1 sound. But after few month they broke becouse of my mothers hit as I think, so I brought them on repair. And after this I want to ask if you  would recommend me another headset, not because I didn't like  that one, but maybe if you have better solution for lower price, actually I'm looking for razer Kraken 7,1 ,USB . So plese right anything you think should should fit my question.

Just based on friends

Just based on friends experience and reviews I've seen by LinusTechTips, the Krakens pretty much suck....

Depending on your price range I can reccomend the Audio Technica ATH-M50X, although not a headset, they're Studio Headphones and they're amazing for gaming.

(Audio Technica has the best poitional audio as well)

Logitech G35 is the one I've

Logitech G35 is the one I've got, had it for 1.5 years, never let me down Big Grin

However, if you're gonna get hit on the head, maybe invest in a motorcycle helmet with internal speakers Big Grin

I already own a pair of m50 and when I was playing cs go the sound looked not as surrounded as in roccat.

I've had the G930 (a bit better than the G35) for a few years, and turned it in for the Roccat Kave XTD. I like the Roccat one a lot better, and imo the real surround sound is a great addition.

I've had very bad experiance with this headset. My brother and friends who've had this headset had same problem. Wink

Cheap plastic that breaks after a year!

I've also been looking for a new headset for quite some time and been thinking of buying "Seenhesier G4me Zero". I've heard alot about it

Theres a couple if things you

Theres a couple if things you have to understand about gaming headsets before you purchase one. First one is that all headsets suck compared to headphones. Simply because they market the naive and unknowing to puchase them, AKA gamers. There are some that are pretty decent like the Kingston HyperX cloud, SS syberia and some few others, but these are more exceptions than rule. Problem with them is partly bad cabling and double cabling for the mic, cheap speakers and cheap designs that only please the eye.

(virtual) surround sound is also a marketing gimmick that has been introduced into headsets. What happens is not simply adding more spacial sound. It uses calculations to bounce soundwaves around in the ear(cup) to supposedly increase spatial awareness. This works extremely well but there is no need for it which I will explain later.

Sometimes this technique is combined with "true" surround, AKA multiple speakers in a earcup. As you can imagine this makes very little difference since the speakers are so close to your ear. Also putting more speakers into something is more expensive, however these headsets are always pretty low priced so they quality of the drivers must be and are inferior to a stereoheadset.

Now for the calculations that ensure spatial awareness. This is something every game has BUILT-IN into their sound-engine since the beginning of the 2000's. Both virtual surround and true surround headsets apply another layer of this over the normal sound. This is nothing other than bad for the sound quality and spatial awareness. The engine that the headset uses does not know where the sound is supposed to come from. so very often the sound that should be coming from the back will come from another direction which is very bad. Even worse is that sounds can disappear in its entirety resulting in less detail and quality.

The perception of better spatial awareness comes from the effects added by the headset. very often resulting in an echo and a more distant sound. it seems more spatial but it is not! it is just your mind playing tricks on you. the actuall direction of the sounds are unchanged or even changed to a other postion.

You do not have to take my word for it. Please turn your surround sound off and listen to this:

Now I will suggest 2 headsets that you should get and some headphones that are very suitable for gaming.

The Kingston HyperX cloud:

Audio Technica ATH-AG1

Audio Technica ATH-AD700X

Audio Technica ATH-AD500X

http://www.thomann.de/nl/audio_technica_ath_ad500_x.htm

Hope this helped and cleared some things up.

P.S I own a pair of G930's as well, never had problems with them and they sound fine but I would rather get one of my above mentioned headwear. Also my g930 has a optional virtual surround and it sounds pretty bad with it. I have also tried multiple "true" surround headsets and all of them were disappointing.

I have had 2 sets of Logitech

I have had 2 sets of Logitech G35, as the others say, after around 1 or 1 1/5 year they break. The sound quality for gaming are very nice tho.

I now have a Astro A50 set. This is made for gaming only, if you want to use it for movies or music, it's rubbish, but for gaming it's the best I have tested myself.
The quality is superb, it has a own input box(MixAmp) where you have 3,5 jack, optical input and usb input. The "MixAmp" box will select the highest quality input device.
The Mixamp also comes with a stand, and a charging cable, so it's easy to put it to charge when it's not in use.
The set is wireless and gives you no problems when gaming as it makes it possible to move around as much as you want to without having the hassle of a stuck or too short cable.
The range is not too good for the wireless, probably 10-15 meters from the stand, so you can't use it to walk around a house and listen to music, but that is not what it's designed for either.

After a fully charge you can use it for 10 hours of straight gaming without having a battery issue.
Because of the stand and the charging cable is so available, it's easy to put it to charge after use, so it's always fully charged.
The set will shut down itself after 1 min without any input/sound. This can be annoying, but it's a nice feature for saving battery.

It also has a handy mute function, where you just flip the mic all the way to the back and it's muted.

I would recommend this set to anyone that can afford it, if they will only use it for gaming (it's in the high end class, so it does cost a bit).
If it's for multiple use, I would not recommend it at all.

I have a separate headset for music, a old Stanton DJ-Pro2000.
