Testing the waters - LoL TTT guides?

So over the past 2 or 3 months I've been putting together a script for a guide. I wanted to make it into a video instead of just posting on a website and I would like some input on just some initial work I've put into a quick test video. With the blessing of you guys I would love to make this and put in a plug for TTT while also using the intro that Nutty has so kindly made for us. Here is a quick audio test I put together in 10 minutes with my terrible microphone (While I'm losing my voice) and horrible understanding of audacity and Vegas. Any input would be most welcome especially from those who have no idea what I'm talking about (Note the the background creeking can be easily fixed, I was just lazy)

EDIT: Render is bad only thanks to my impatience so full video would obviously be in atleast 720p

Style I want to imitate:

First comment, get a better

First comment, get a better quality mic or try to equalize it into a little better and closer quality. The first thing i noticed after you saying Thresh is that your voice sounds far away and rather dull, whilst the guy in the AW video, sounds like he is right next to me.

I'll look into making my voice more bassy via editing although I must admit I don't have the best speaking voice.

Well it wasnt really meant as 'get a low dark voice', but more as try to make your 'audio' the attractive point of the movie, as the picture isnt interesting at all. Try to get your 'audio' on the foreground and the main attraction so people will be interested to hear what you are on about.

Right, I have had this as an

Right, I have had this as an idea for a long time, but never had a good idea for content, so I have never started on it.
You will have to excuse me if I use a lot of terms from tv shows and podcasting, but this sort of guides should be treated like a tv series season if it's something you want to continue doing, if you only plan for x amount of videos, then think about it as a 1 season thing, everything below is applicable.
To have something like this, if you want it to succeed, you need to have a proper startup, good marketing, and content planned for at least the next 5-10 shows.

Startup:

The key here is quality, planning and preparation. Quality is a big thing, but planning and preparation is just as much important.

  1. Quality
Your audio and video needs to be in tip top shape, but most know this, Google guides for increasing quality on mic input, find out how to reduce noise and make sure that you write down the steps you need to take to get your best result, and wherever you can, create presets / templates so that this does not steal your time.
You should also find some sort of instrumental song that you can put in the background, as this will help out with "Dead Air" and when it fits for a small breather for the watcher (remember that it should not be dramatic or with voice so that it steals attention for the watcher).

As this is a video, you will also need to have the same structure for your show. With that I mean that you should have the same text, graphics for text fields, background tune, and even how you present the show. This should ofc follow the same style you use for channel graphics etc.

And always remember to have a small teaser for the next show to get the audience interested to subscribe and give them the urge to see the next show.

  2. Planning
Planning your steps to start up is important, but so are the planning around your "season" and every episode.
You need to plan your first season or at least half, so that you have a plan for what to release. If not, you will end up with having times where you don't have any creative shows, and that can kill your motivation and subscriber base really quick. If you do not plan a schedule, you will end up by either creating content because you feel you have to, or it will be just half good ideas, and trust me, the quality on those are not going to work or are any good for that sake. So make a plan for the season. =)
Your schedule plan should include a list of episodes with the following information before you start:
    - Dates for release, recording and when you start working with the episode.
    - Title for the Episode.
    - Short description of the content of the episode (keywords etc)

The list can ofc be edited at any time, but it's important that you stick to it and make updates to it as often as possible if that is needed.

Now that you have your schedule, it's time to plan your episodes. I suggest that you use a document post or some kind of template for this, as this will help in the long run when you are making new content. It also make it more structured and easier to work with if you are working with multiple people.
The goal is to end up with a script for your episode, both for what you need to have from footage, what to put in text, sound effects, and a script for what you need to record with voice(this is especially important to be sure you have a good quality video).

  3. Preparation.
Have you gotten this far, you are nearly there. By now you should have a good idea what the missing pieces are before you record, edit and release your guides. Do you need to have some specific graphic or music created. Is the video and audio quality correct? Are you sure you have planned everything you need to deliver a steady pace of releases? Have you set a date for when you need to be done with the preparation for the next "season" of guides?

Seems like a lot of work? Yeah, it sure is, but if you follow the steps above, you are guaranteed to produce many high quality guides, and with some proper marketing, and a bit of luck, it will be a pure success story.

Thanks for the advice,

Thanks for the advice, certainly a very interesting read for someone who has dabbled in stuff like this before.

As for all the shedule thing I'll try and get a more solid grasp on my format after I finish off this one but after getting my footing on video and audio editing with this first one. I can't wait to lay out the ground work for the rest of the series (Maybe get a couple others to try their hand as my knowledge only extends so far beyond the support role) and try and get this going.

Once again, thank you for your amazing amount of input. I will keep you posted on my progress.

schwarz. increease your mic

schwarz. increase your mic volume. your voice gets muffled quite alot by the background noises.

Aqua, its very important to detirmine whats your style. I like enthousiatic improvisment rather than scripted drama-ness.

Also always check your audio levels like I told schwarz since It can really put down any viewers. If youre thinking about doing more guides and video I would advise you getting a cheap little mic that offers better performance. I have heard that cheap little microsoft deskmic's are quite good bang for the buck.

Note that any editing of the audio will cripple the quality, especially when removing noise. It can be very usefull for crappy microphones but if you have a good one (like mine or better) you do not want to do any kind of editing apart from equalizing.

as for the render quality I will post my settings below. I keep my bitrate at 8 Mbps since that is youtube native bitrate and otherwise it decodes and encodes it down again and every encoding is 1 too many.
