Hey guys!
I'm heading off to college this coming fall and I need to supply myself with a laptop that meets my school's reccomendations if I want to take advantage of the on-campus tech support. I do not know a single thing about laptops so I really need help on this. I am going to school for business so I would like to have a laptop that runs windows but it does not have to be super advanced graphically or RAM wise (but atleast 8gb of RAM please!!).
I can get a laptop other than one of these but then I will not receive the tech support. Also, I need to get a 3 year warranty with accidental damage coverage as well for it to be valid.
Here is what they reccomend:

Dell:
-
Latitude series
-
Vostro series
-
Precision series
Lenovo:
-
ThinkPad series
Mac:
-
(MacBook, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro)
So please comment if you have any reccomendations even if it isn't one of these brands or models! My limit on price would be about $1,500 as well! Thanks guys!

First you come with an epic disclaimer, then you come with an epic price
with 1.500 dollars you can buy a gaming grade whoopass rigg. My professional advice: figure out your priorities.
i.e. does it have to be mobile, do you want a touchscreen etc. etc.
With a 1.500 dollar budget you get to be picky
If you think you're a computer noob and you want a minimum of difficulty, then perhaps Apple would be useful. Your needs will be met with a Macbook air 13" CTO with 8Gb of RAM. Should come about the 1.100 dollar mark.

What is your study about? Because a MacBook is mostly used because of the professional software available. Otherwise you'd probably be better off with a Windows note/ultrabook. $1500 is indeed a big amount, if you would look for Lenovo series, check the S540 and E540 series.

I'm also thinking of buying a new laptop for the same purposes as you sam.
I won't recomend buying a gaming or very powerful laptop for college, mostly they are rather bulky, and thats a big disadvantage if it comes to taking notes in lectures or writing papers in library. Mobility is the essential thing, I speak from personal experience!
as erazmaz said a macbook air would be a good choice. BUT apple is really overpriced in relation to what the hardware offers, and it's more a status symbol imo. (war of opinions incoming in... 3...2...1..)
1 and a half grand is a lot of money and you don't have to strain your budget before college even started, you will be broke for the upcoming years anyway
As mentioned above mobility is most important! I hink schwarzflug got some great advice for you, as far as I know he is a genius if it comes to building a pc and stuff like that!
For $1500 you can go allout loco, but you dont have to.... As i assume its your money, save the ~700$ and go for a good grade laptop which can do just what you want it to do.
for mobility, dont go above 14 Inch screen, its too big otherwise
Well $1,500 is my MAXIMUM so hopefully I won't spend that much. I'm really looking in the range of $800-1000. And I don't want to sacrifice speed for weight because a lot of the advertised light weight lap tops had like 4gb of RAM which I will not deal with Haha
