low fps r9 290

Hey guys, I just upgraded from my old 7870 to an r9 290 tri-x. I removed the old drivers first with DDU before installing, and now in BF4 on ultra with 100% resolution scale I get about 35 fps on average. I should be getting 90-100.

my specs:

AMD FX-6100

990fxa-ud3 mobo

xms3 8gb 1333 Ram

r9 290 tri-x

250 GB 840 EVO

1tb WD Black

1tb Samsung HDD

I have no idea what could be the matter. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers twice as well as updated the chipset and all mobo drivers...

No need for reinstalling

No need for reinstalling drivers, they are both included in the package. BTW, if you're running Ultra @ 1080p, you're not going to get 90-100 fps, more like 50-70.

What's probably your issue is that your CPU is bottlenecking your system, try checking the cpu usage in task manager, if it's constantly 100%, try to see if there's other programs running that could be closed, or overclock your CPU.

Another way to lower cpu usage dramaticly, is to enable Mantle API in BF4. This has given me huge performance improvements over DX11.

I have a Sapphire R9 280 Dual

I have a Sapphire R9 280 Dual-X OC'd at 1000 MHz core clock and 1300 MHz memory clock, yet my FPS is at minimum 30, average 30-35 and maximum 120 with ultra, 1680x1050, 100% res scale, and I get the exactly same FPS on the lowest possibe settings (low, 1024x768, and 0% resolution scale.... My processor is to blame for the low FPS (I have a Athlon II X4 640....), but yours seems to be good enough to get your wanted FPS..

I have no idea why you get the low FPS though.. Try using this guide: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/faq/id-2284749/completely-uninstall-amd-nv... to completely remove all AMD related software, and install them again.

If all else fails, do a full system restore. Format your C:/ drive (But use a program to get your key, if you don't have it saved anywhere else..) and start from the bottom again. Try backing upp all your games and local savefiles to another harddrive (Either internal [MAKE SURE IT ISN'T A PARTITION OF THE C:/ DRIVE!!] or external) if possible.. If not, then yea, have fun with the downloads and then starting from the beginning of EVERY local save based game.. Who knows, maybe you have some empty CD's to put the backups on? Or maybe you have some CD's with games on? I have no clue. ROFL

But yeah, good luck. Hope all goes well. I can't assist much more. (If I even did assist there at all and just wasn't talking rubbish.. ^^)

EDIT: Fixed a lot of spelling mistakes, changed some incorrect words and other stuff, I was VERY tired when I wrote that.. ROFL

I have my mantle option

I have my mantle option hidden, even though I have everything neccessary to use it. /:

Anyway, The R9 290 should be able to reach 70-90 (maybe 100-120 if lucky) with ease. I think the processor is the problem for him as well.

I have 2x 7950 in CF,

I have 2x 7950 in CF, overclocked to 1080MHz, an i5 4670k @4.4GHz, Mantle enabled and I get 90-120FPS on Ultra without AA. My CPU has been bottlenecking forever in BF4, and it still is. It is just really badly optimized, and running Ultra on an R9 290 just won't give those framerates.

BTW, NEVER reinstall your computer unless you have some really bad virus (or another valid reason).

Think you can help me with

Think you can help me with some stuff regarding AMD? I can't update my Catalyst Software Suite (I have 14.10.1006, and the latest is 14.201.1008 [That's atleast what is says in the CCC]).. And I can't Update my drivers either, for some weird reason.. Mantle not showing up in BF4. All sorts of problems on my end. ROFL
