Hey Peeps,
Just a random thread for anyone with an interest in numbers and statistics. It's a video (bit old now) by a numbers and statistical guru called Hans Rosling (came across this guy in a course of Statistics i'm currently doing, though you might have already heard of him). In this video he brings numerical data to life via a visual presentation of the statistical data.
The video really inspired and piqued my interest so thought i would share. I hope you enjoy:
Very interesting to see the disparity between some nations even in 2009 and how china has a large gap between the wealthy and the poor.
As for the actual visual representation it's very interesting, being able to display so many points of data in a very easy to understand manner. Loved it
You're going to carry that weight.
I've seen this in school. It is indeed very interesting and shows how the west has advanced, but is losing its 'edge' over the east. And im not saying its a good or bad thing, rather an interesting thing. Are we not advancing as much as we used to? Moore's law is on an instable stand barely held up. Im interested to see the next 100 years in statistics like this. (when im that old xD)
Glad you enjoyed waterdude/aqua/ngan
Exhi - I guess when you are at the top of ladder there's not much higher you can go.... i guess there have been improvements, but not as noticeable as the countries that have played catch up.
It'll be interesting (in this examination on lifespan & wealth) if there is a new breakthrough technology that can increase longevity beyond what we currently deam as excellent. Like if some sort of technology previously entertained as science fiction, cell renewal/stem cells sort of thing, was developed I imagine it would initially predominantly be accesible to the wealthier countries.... so would again see the great divide between countries?!?! who knows.
Interesting material. And in my opinion a magical way of presenting what can be boring data.
how about a spiritual breakthrough: a life without stress

I did read something about stem cell research with scientists able to 'reproduce' stem cells. Dont remember where though, ill have to dig for it.
Pretty sure that stem cells were used to cure a man who was paralysed from the waist down.
It was in the news quite recently.... Injected the stem cells into his spine or something. I'll google it once I get into work. Need to get showered and dressed just now.
Is it that time of year again
