Virtual Reality

Since this finally might be the age where VR actually becomes widespread, I was wondering what your thoughts are on VR.

Are you planning on getting one?

I'm going to get an HTC Vive this July, and I can't wait to play with it, even though I should probably find a bigger room for it ROFL

i dunno, currently the games

i dunno, currently the games available for VR look stunning, but i currently am not thrilled by those games thus investing in a new GPU and the VR itself seems a little premature to me. Though i'd love to see this evolve into helmets used in Sword Art Online Big Grin

I already have a Gear VR. I

I already have a Gear VR. I got it around 4 months ago. I designed a Special Needs School and wanted the client/s to experience of being inside this building and "feeling" what this design achieves.

I am definitely going to invest in an Oculus or an HTC, or perhaps both! as i see this is the beginning of everything virtual from now on.

I like it, but the cost is

I like it, but the cost is high and first generation tends to always come with limitations. If I were to get one I'd be an HTC Vive but it is SUPER expensive ROFL

a grand!? what retail store you looking this up? the Oculus costs around $600 while the Vive at the top of my head is $800 if im not mistaken.

Honestly, the VR scene is still in its infancy, everybody is still "figuring it out", though, almost all concepts seem to work so far, hence it being promising.

If i were a gamer, i would wait a bit until some solid games come out. But as an early adopter and technology enthusiast, i'd like to get to know the technology while it's still in testing phase to work out all its kinks and pinpoint any future issues i might run into.

I've just ordered mine, paid

I've just ordered mine, paid €973 for it. It's not available in retail yet (which would've saved me 75 euros on shipping ROFL ).

I'm gonna need some serious

I'm gonna need some serious NSAIDS to kill the headache I will be getting from that stuff. No go for me xD. Although it might provide me some fun info for my continuation of my essay about NSAIDS ROFL

Why is that? Sad

Did you try it or is it an expectation?

Oculus Rift: £600
GTX 970: £250
Total: £850

So yeah, the best part of a grand.

Both really. I get headaches from siting to close to my screen for long periods of time AND because 3D has the same effect. VR really is a combination of the two. Two images projected at each eye and a very close screen. Reason for this is because I had one lazy eye and that eye still needs a +4 lens while my "good" eye only needs a +1,25 lens.

So getting a VR will do 3 things for me, give me a giant headache, make me skinned broke until I am an actual vet and because my eyes are so far apart in terms of what lens they need, the VR effect will get lost for me just like 3D.

Note that I am not saying that VR is bad its just my personal strangeness and illnesses. Although I do think this will die out eventually like the Wii/PS move and stuff like 3D but thats a different matter

Ahhh.. That sucks. Sad

On the dying out: I'm not sure it will die out. Maybe the gaming aspect, but there are so many other aspects that VR will improve so much, that I don't think it will easily disappear. Especially since most downsides of previous VR solutions have been fixed in this generation.

EDIT:

This stuff really makes me wonder how immersive this can be. My expectations are nowhere near this, but it still happens to so many people:
